Gatsby is one of the protagonists in The Great Gatsby.
When he was born, he was given the name James Gats.
He was born in North Dakota.
He was ashamed of his parents.
As a child he was very determined to be successful; when he was seventeen he left home.
On his travels he met a rich man named Dan Cody, who owned a yacht.
He warned Dan by saying, “wind might catch him and break him up in half,” (page 98).
Dan Cody taught Gatsby how to act wealthy and Gatsby decided never to drink because he knew that it made you dizzy/unaware.
Gatsby likes being alert/aware of his surroundings.
Once Cody died Gatsby was supposed to inherit some money but it instead was given to Cody’s family.
After Gatsby served in the army, he first met Daisy in Louisville.
Gatsby got most of his money from bootlegging (illegal sale of alcohol).
Gatsby now lives in West Egg right across the bay from Daisy and next door to Nick.
Gatsby would host parties in hope that one day Daisy (the love of his life) would wander in.
Once Nick moved in, Gatsby invited him to one of his parties so that he could help him meet Daisy.
Gatsby represents the American Dream, to move to one place, get rich, and live in peace.
Nick is a character in “The Great Gatsby.”
He is a protagonist and is a staic character.
Nick doesnt change throughout the plot because he is just the narrarator of the book.
Nick was a middle-classed man who had recently moved into West Egg; renting a house next door to Gatsby.
Later in the book he get involved with love problems between Daisy, Gatsby, and Tom.
Nick is neither wealthy or poor.
Nick described himself as “Non-judgemental.”
His father told him ,”whenever you feel like criticizing anyone… just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had,”(page 1).
Nick already knew Daisy before because he is her second cousin.
In Chapter one, Nick was invited to Gatsby party.
There, he met Jordan, who he finds attractive, and then later meets Gatsby.
Nick represents a bystander throughout the book.
Daisy Buchanan is a character in The Great Gatsby.
She is a protagonist/antagonist and is a dynamic/static character.
Daisy “Faye” was born into a wealthy family from Louisiana which is where she falls in love with Gatsby.
She got her money from her parents which is considereed old money.
Daisy is considered very angelic and she uses the color white to express herself.
Daisy had the opportunity to love many men who were in the same class as her but instead she loved Gatsby.
Daisy lives in East Egg.
With Tom Buchanan which also is very wealthy.
Tom Buchanan is the husband of Daisy Buchanan.
He is a wealthy man that lives in East Egg.
He is an aggressive man who cheats on daisy with many women.
One person he cheated on Daisy with is Myrtle.
Tom is a man that came into wealth by his family and he would be considered “old money” he is good friends with Nick because they met at yale, a university they both attended.
He is considered also racist as stated in chapter 1 “Well, it's a fine book, and everybody ought to read it.
The idea is if we don't look out the white race will be—will be utterly submerged.
It's all scientific stuff; it's been proved” in this he is talking about how the white race is superior.
Tom and Gatsby are the men that fight for Daisy even almost fighting.
Tom becomes suspicious about how Gatsby earned his wealth.
Tom also becomes aware and suspicious about who daisy hangs out with and calls.
He finds out about the affair and becomes enraged.
The irony in it is that he has cheated on her many times.
Tom is also the person that can be partially blamed for Gatsbys death.
George is a minor character in The Great Gatsby.
In the story George owns a garage and a gasoline station; he is a poor mechanic.
He lives in the Valley of Ashes in West Egg.
George is married with Myrtle, who is cheating on him with Tom.
George somewhat knew that Myrtle had been cheating on him because one day Myrtle came back with a broken nose.
George also found pearls that he didn’t buy her.
He told Myrtle, “You can’t fool God, God sees everything.”
George was always angry at Myrtle that he started abusing her alot.
He told Tom, “I’ve got my wife locked in up there… she’s going to stay there till the day after to-morrow, and then we’re going to move away,” (page 136).
Myrtle is a character in the Great Gatsby.
She was more of a background charcter until the end of the book.
Myrtle Wilson is the wife of George Wilson. She lives in “the valley of ashes.”
She is in a abusive relationship with him as stated In chapter 7 (page 137) ,”Beat me!" he heard her cry.
"Throw me down and beat me, you dirty little coward!”.
She is poor but with Tom she gets a first look at the rich life that Tom provides for her.
With Tom, she is also in a abusive relationship, she got hit on her nose by Tom. People usually treat her with respect except for George.
Myrtle is also the woman that got hit and killed by Gatsby’s car.
Jordan is a character in The Great Gatsby.
She is minor character and remain static throughout the book because she is more like a background character.
Jordan Baker is a professional golfer and she is a friend of Daisy.
She is a woman of class.
She is young, single woman of particular wealth.
She tries to date nick but she is suprised when she does not fall for her charm.
She represents the “new woman” of the 1920s.
Jordan is very good friends with daisy and they come from louisville.
The only relative that Jordan has is her old aunt.
Her ant is also the way that she has her money so if she inherited it that means she is also “old money”.
