Madagascar is a large island found South-East of Africa and has some smaller islands around it. Madagascar is filled with to ns of exclusive animals and plants that can only be found in and around Madagascar. France invaded Madagascar in 1883 in what became known as the first Franco-Hova War. At the end of the war, Madagascar ceded the northern port town of Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) to France and paid 560,000 francs to Joseph-François Lambert’s heirs. The French imperialised Madagascar after they seized the country sometime in December of 1894. France annexed Madagascar two years later and declared the island a colony the following year, dissolving the Merina monarchy and sending the royal family into exile on Réunion Island and to Algeria. The French elected a new president named Charles De Gaulle, he immediately granted Madagascar its independence. Madagascar’s government is a semi-presidential representative democratic republic. Which means the president is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government.
Madagascar is home to two cities, Nosy Be and Toamasina. Nosy Be is an island off the northwest coast of Madagascar, it is the largest city and busiest tourist resort. On the other hand Toamasina is on the east coast of Madagascar on the indian ocean. Nosy Be and Toamasina hold madagascar’s major problems. Such as educational complication, environmental complication, etc..., but we have decided to focus on sex trafficking. Sex traffickers aim for girls between the ages of 12-18 because they are easier to coerce,as well as often been a more popular choice than older or younger girls. This type of work is very hard for young women and it can lead to many serious health issues.
Our solution to this sex trafficking problem is to build a center in two the major cities, Nosy Be and Toamasina. This center will provide a lot of resources and benefits to the young girls. Such as protection and contraceptives like condoms, IUDs, check ups, and more. Also the center will provide a secure home and living place, something like a safe haven for young women wanting out the sex trafficking. The center will also provide counseling with job opportunities.
